The Stag O Lee/The Cellar/The Nitty Gritty
We at Intoxica Records do more than just sell records, you know. We also love playing them to like-minded souls at our affiliated regular club nights in London.
The Stag O Lee Preservation Society And Drinking Club (to give it its full title) is a groovy little happening at The New Evaristo Club, 57 Greek Street, Soho W1 (opposite The Pillars Of Hercules pub). It has been running for 4 years now, with regular selectors Nick Brown and Ben Olins (aided and abetted by occasional guest DJs) spinning ribald rhythm and blues, soul stompers & lachrymose laments - only on 45s made between 1955 and 1967, mind you - providing a suitable soundtrack to poker, dominoes and other games of skill and chance available at the venue. The Evaristo is an intimate basement venue, and it does fill up quickly, so best come down early, bag a table, pick your game and prepare for a laid back night of rhythm 'n' booze!
The Stag O Lee is open for business every Wednesday night from 9pm til 2am
The Cellar, started in September 2006 by Nick, Ben and Liam Watson, is already proving to be very popular with the heppest of cats. It's a swinging dance party held downstairs at The Constitution pub, 42 St Pancras Way, Camden NW1. The playlist samples the cream of Beat, Rock'n'Roll and Rhythm & Blues platters, guaranteed to get you off your seat and on your feet!
Held on the first Saturday every other month, 9pm - 2am. Due to increasing popularity, there is no admission after 11pm. The next dates are
The Nitty Gritty is also to be found downstairs at The Constitution. A regular afternoon/evening groove-athon on the 2nd Sunday of each month, hosted by regular DJs Debbie Smith and Jai Rathbone, you'll hear the best in 60's soul, r&b, ska, rocksteady, freakbeat, garage, girl group sounds and more besides! Guest DJs will be featured each month, bringing their own inimitable styles to proceedings.
The next do is on Sunday 8th June, starting at 4pm and going on until 10pm. Upcoming dates are:
