It's forty years since The Beatles were first beamed into American homes and
hearts on the Ed Sullivan show.
Neal Watkin's poignant pictures of Strawberry Fields in Central Park show how
deep and long-lasting the American love affair with The Beatles has been.
Music has always been a large part of Neal's life from a very young age. Many
artists have influenced his view of the world, The Beatles and John Lennon especially.
Strawberry Fields is a place he can feel close to John & Yoko and their hope
for world peace.

Jowe (Stephen Bird), is was a performer with the Swell Maps and Television
Personalities, and now with Angel Racing Food. His artwork has been used for
record covers and he has also incorporated action painting into his bands' live
performances.
Jowe's work is surreal and eccentic and often incorporates found objects into
his pictures. This exhibition mostly features his grotesque figures, brightly
painted 3-D heads getting up to mischievous acts!
There are a couple of sites who follow Jowe's happenings : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jowehead and www.televisionpersonalities.co.uk/jowe.htm

THE DETAIL PAINTINGS Intricate, horrifying and beautiful, these pictures are full of troubling images, reminiscent of themes explored by Giorgio DeChirico, Hieronymous Bosch, and Max Ernst. Surrealistic and sinister characters exist in a Medieval landscape realised with an unsettling feeling of the impossible yet familiar. THE ABSTRACTS Quite different, yet clearly by the same hand, these powerful and muscular pictures are almost a distilled-spirit version of the others. Three dimensional forms loom out of flat landscapes, dark figures resolve themselves in slabs of alternating vibrant and gloomy colour. Shapes only possible in dreams crawl onto the canvas. Mickey was a member of the legendary MILKSHAKES, the ultimate antidote to the 80s. Along with fellow Medway artist and band-mate BILLY CHILDISH, BRUCE BRAND & RUSS WILKINS. Today he plays in THE MASONICS a stripped-down trio that stick to old MILKSHAKES values. |
4 August - 6 October 2003, show of prints from Mark's postcard art. Mark, formerly Devo frontman, has been producing his postcard art for the last 30 years. His work reflects his interest in international issues in a cartoon-like way, often putting a series of postcards together for a print to produce a storyboard.
