INTOXICA RECOMMENDS - TOP PICKS FOR SEPTEMBER 2010

THE RATIONALS – FAN CLUB ALBUM / OUT ON THE FLOOR LPs:

The ‘Fan Club Album’ is legendary in collector circles as one of the rarest 60s garage artefacts ever – only three test pressing copies are confirmed to exist. Consisting of unreleased outtakes from the band’s earliest sessions in ‘65 and ‘66, the LP was intended as a farewell ‘thank you’ to their loyal fanbase. This reissue comes with a new sleeve, and two tracks are exclusive to this release.
‘Out On The Floor’ collects together the best material from the Rationals’ mid-60s garage-soul heyday, including such signature tunes as ‘Leavin’ Here’, ‘Temptation’s ‘Bout To Get Me’ and their big regional hit, ‘I Need You’. Both are essential for all garage heads.

NEU! – NEU! / NEU! 2 / NEU! 75 Reissue LPs &  NEU! 86 12”:

Reissues on black (Neu! 75 / Neu! 86) and white vinyl (Neu! / Neu! 2).
Dinger and Rother were originally in Kraftwerk, but departed to forge their own vision. Debut album 'Neu!' finds the band announcing their arrival as a mighty musical force with an unparallelled opening statement, that of the ten-minute repetitive feast of 'Hallogallo'. 'Neu! 2', meanwhile, invents the concept of the remix, with ‘Super’ featuring three times, replayed at various speeds.
'Neu! '75' was recorded as Dinger and Rother reunited for the last time. It was a distillation of everything the band had searched for and is the most harmonious of the three records. Neu! 86 was a limited release (500 copies) for Record Store Day and features tracks which were 'reworked' by Michael Rother in 2009, and is pressed on nice heavyweight vinyl.

THE MULESKINNERS – KNOCKOUT R&B WITH… New Acid Jazz EP:

The third EP in Acid Jazz's Rare Mod series is dedicated to a mod-R&B outfit from west London, overlooked but for one small fact. The Muleskinners featured a very young Ian MacLagan (later of The Small Faces), who guitar and keyboards in the band. This is an unreleased demo session culled from acetate, beautifully packaged, features some choice fuzz-blues stompers, and is a true piece of musical history.

LAS VEGAS GRIND Vols. 1, 3, 4, 5 & 6 COMPILATION LPs:

More hipshakin’ party-starting burlesque boppers than you can shake a stick at - these records swing, howl and growl. A fun mix of obscure 50's, mostly sax driven rock ‘n’ roll and swing with a few Mad Mike Monsters thrown in for good measure, these comps make you feel dirty in a good way.

R&B REISSUE 45s – NEW BATCH JUST IN:

More hot-to-trot R&B 45s for your delectation, including gems from Georgia Lane, Sonny Knight, Jack ‘The Bear’ Parker and Rudy Greene amongst others. Killer jump blues, Pittsburgh Sound, rock’n’ roll rarities.

THE JELLIES – JIVE BABY ON A SATURDAY NIGHT New Trunk 12”:

Originally a very limited run (only 30 original copies), this post-punk obscurity from 1981 has been re-released by Trunk Records. Minimalist lo-fi disco, this 12” comes with bonus remixes from George Vert, Fred Deakin from Lemon Jelly, Jonny Trunk and Tommy, who conjure up a Backwards Mix.

SYLVIA STRIPLIN – GIVE ME YOUR LOVE Reissue DLP :

Soul Jazz reissue of this definitive, super-rare and in-demand boogie soul LP produced by (and featuring)  Roy Ayers. The music is some of Roy's finest, full of those trademark bassline bubbles and super slick guitars that have made it a holy grail among rare groove collectors and DJs. A definite must-have for all '80s soul aficionados.

SPEED, GLUE & SHINKI – SPEED, GLUE & SHINKI Reissue DLP:

The rare self-titled Speed, Glue & Shinki LP from '72, sometimes referred to as the Tiger album – with some raw, blistering fuzzed out post psyche rock from the Japanese combo – and some trippier, more experimental numbers with Moog & other keyboards in the mix. The first half of the record is the fun, fuzzed out, stoner rock portion, with English lyrics, mean rhythms and crazy guitar solos, the later tracks take an about face turn into experimental wig-outs.

LES RALLIZES DENUDES – BLIND BABY HAS IT’S MOTHER’S EYES Reissue LP:

Legendary Japanese rock outfit Les Rallizes Denudes’ name apparently means 'fucked up and naked' which more than adequately describes their music - high volume, raw lo-fi repetitive feedback-drenched guitar noise fests with nods in the direction of the Velvet Underground and Blues Creation but without the electronics.
All the band's albums were released in very small quantities and because of the group's reputation for secrecy and violence, as well as the difficulty in tracking down their recordings, Les Rallizes Denudes has assumed almost mythical status.

HOWE GELB – ‘SNO ANGEL LIKE YOU New DBL 45:

This double 45 was recorded during an Ottawa winter which led to the image of a Snow Angel. It features seven new songs, including three old Giant Sand tunes Gelb always felt begged for a choir, so he got one – Canada’s Voices Of Praise, who give the acoustic guitar-led tracks a dizzying vocal sheen.

THE LONDON DIRTHOLE COMPANY – A NIGHT ON MARE STREET New LP:

The London Dirthole Company rants, romps and rasps through mischievous tale after tale of music hall melodrama, cautionary ode and desperate derring-do.
Featuring a revolving door of singers with Kim-Leigh as the anchor, the 4 drummer thump beats the path for the 3 guitar and bass squadron to bomb through a set of songs that mix blasted R&B punk with fizzy Noise aesthetics, with guest slots from the likes of classic English actor Peter Marinker, Neil Fraser (Tindersticks), Mike Fornatale (Monks, Richard & The Young Lions), Bongo Debbie (Headcoatees, A-Lines), Terry Edwards (Gallon Drunk, Lydia Lunch) and of course the one and only Sexton Ming.
